What We Build

Not a Box from a catalog. A Cabinet Built for Your Space.

Custom cabinetry means every dimension, profile, finish, and hardware selection is specified for your project and built from scratch in our shop. There are no stock sizes to work around, and you can choose any door style, including a custom-matched profile.

We build inset, frameless, and face-frame overlay cabinets. Our custom line includes Blum undermount soft-close slides, Blum concealed hinges, and solid hardwood dovetail drawer boxes.

Need a faster timeline or a lower budget? Our stock and semi-custom lines are also available, and we build custom built-ins for every room.

Construction Types

Three Construction Methods. One Quality Standard.

The right construction type depends on your design intent and how the kitchen will be used. Dan will recommend the correct approach at the consultation.

01

Inset Construction

Doors and drawer fronts sit flush inside the cabinet frame. The most demanding construction method in terms of precision, and the one that produces the most refined, furniture-quality result. Characteristic of traditional and transitional kitchens where detail is everything.

Highest precision, furniture quality
02

Frameless (Full Access)

No face frame. Doors mount directly to the cabinet box, providing full interior access and a clean, contemporary look. Preferred for modern and European-influenced kitchens where the inside of the cabinet is as important as the exterior.

Full interior access, contemporary
03

Face-Frame Overlay

Traditional American construction with a solid wood face frame and doors that overlay the frame. Offers excellent structural rigidity, works with nearly any door style, and is the most versatile construction for transitional and traditional design aesthetics.

Structural versatility, traditional

What Is Standard

What Comes With Our Custom Line.

These features come standard on every cabinet we build by hand in our shop.

Blum Hinges and Undermount Soft-Close Slides

Lifetime warranty hardware from the industry leader in cabinet mechanics. Standard on every cabinet in our custom line.

Solid Hardwood Dovetail Drawer Boxes

Every drawer box is solid hardwood with traditional dovetail joinery. No MDF, no particle board, no engineered wood substrate. The same specification a bespoke furniture maker would use.

Wisconsin Sawmill Hardwood, When Available

We operate our own sawmill in Wisconsin. For our custom line, we use hardwood milled there whenever the species and supply are available. Otherwise we source quality hardwood locally. The wood for every project is chosen based on availability and what the design calls for.

No Particle Board, Anywhere

Not in the drawer box. Not in the cabinet floor. Not as a substrate behind the veneer. Every structural component in a Dan Craig Cabinetry project is solid wood or quality plywood. Particle board does not exist in our process.

Our Hardwoods

Dozens of Species. Three Favorites.

Maple, walnut, and white oak are our most popular choices, and we build in dozens more.

White Oak

Quercus Alba

The most in-demand species in contemporary cabinetry. Tight grain, warm golden-brown tones, exceptional stain absorption. Works with natural, stained, and painted finishes. Ideal for transitional and modern aesthetics.

Walnut

Juglans Nigra

Rich chocolate tones with a swirling, character-rich grain. The premium luxury option. Every panel is uniquely grained and takes a natural finish better than almost any other domestic hardwood.

Hard Maple

Acer Saccharum

Fine, even grain with a creamy white tone. The preferred substrate for painted finishes and the first choice for bright, clean kitchen aesthetics. Photographs beautifully in every lighting condition.

What Does a Custom Kitchen Cost?

Custom pricing depends on the size of the room, the species, the door style, and the finish. Most custom kitchen remodels fall between $30,000 and $150,000+.

If you need a lower budget, our stock line ($10,000 to $30,000) and semi-custom line ($20,000 to $50,000) are great options.

Budget is discussed openly at the consultation so the proposal you receive reflects what is actually achievable at your number.

Custom Cabinetry Questions.

How long does custom cabinetry take?

Custom cabinets are handmade in our shop and typically take about 6 to 12 weeks to build, depending on the size of the project and the finish. Installation is scheduled as soon as they are ready, and we give you a written timeline before any deposit.

What does a custom kitchen cost?

A kitchen remodel with our custom line typically runs $30,000 to $150,000+, depending on size, species, door style, finish, and countertops. If you need a lower budget or faster timeline, our stock and semi-custom lines are also available.

What is the difference between stock, semi-custom, and custom?

Stock cabinets come in standard sizes and are delivered in 3 to 5 days. Semi-custom cabinets are built to order from a wider set of sizes and options in about 3 to 6 weeks. Custom cabinets are handmade in our shop to any dimension, species, door style, and finish.

What wood species can I choose?

Dozens. Maple, walnut, and white oak are the most popular, and we also build in hickory, red oak, birch, cherry, sycamore, ash, beech, mahogany, and more. Wood comes from Wisconsin sawmills when available, otherwise it is sourced locally.

Can you match a door style I found?

Yes. We can build almost any door style, including custom-matching a specific profile. Custom matching adds cost, which we quote up front.

What hardware comes with custom cabinets?

Our custom line includes Blum undermount soft-close drawer slides, Blum concealed hinges, and solid hardwood dovetail drawer boxes.

Can I use my architect or designer's drawings?

Yes. Upload their drawings and we will build to them, providing our own shop drawings for approval before production.
