Every Black Forest project uses hardwood sourced from our Wisconsin property and milled in our own sawmill. The species, the harvest date, and the milling profile are documented. There is no broker, no importer, and no commodity lumber in a Black Forest cabinet.
A Black Forest project begins with the wood, not the door style. The grain character, the figure, and the colour tone of the species drive the design decisions. The door profile, the finish, and the hardware are chosen to reveal the wood rather than compete with it.
Dan Craig Cabinetry does not subcontract the build. The person who selects the lumber from the mill is the same person who designs the cabinet, builds it, and installs it. For a homeowner who wants a documented chain of custody from tree to kitchen, this is the only option that delivers it.
The Source
The Black Forest name comes from the wooded character of the Wisconsin property. Dense hardwood stands of White Oak, Walnut, and Hard Maple, managed over decades, harvested responsibly, and milled on-site. No clear-cutting. No broker chain. No quality drift between lot and lot.
The material quality that results from owning the full supply chain from land to mill to cabinet shop is not something that can be replicated by sourcing from a lumber dealer, regardless of price.
